Quirky PowerCurl, Indispensable Gadget for MacBook Users

Recently I visited my preferred Apple store in Manilla, The A.Shop in Eastwood, just to browse through the items and sales hunter I am, look if something new was discounted. A new series of Apple gadgets had made it’s appearance and immediately caught my eye.

One of the things I always hated with a passion about my MacBook equipment was the charger and it’s well designed cord wrap option but poor design for users who prefer the long charger cable. I also had to purchase a new charger because my MagSafe cable suffered the typical death of connection.

The MagSafe: Great looks but poor design.

No need to say that as someone who always travels with the long power cord, I always have been on the lookout for a solution and what I saw at the A.Shop was love at first sight.

Enter the Quirky PowerCurl Cord Manager, complete with camel casing.

Of Course, Red Horse: My Pinoy Experience So Far Resumed in 4’42″

Brilliant. As an expat in the Pilippines, I can totally related to Mikey Bustos and have to confirm every single stereotype in this video.

More even: when I bought cutlery, there still were many more knifes than forks available. Spoons all were sold out! Ola tenola!

Philippines National Blogger Association: Semantics, Questions & Egos

Philippines, Blogging Nation

The Philippines, One Blogging Nation

Over the last days, since a post on the newly created Janitor Al blog, the National Blogger’s Association for the Philippines has been buzzing the Pinoy blogosphere. You can follow all the buzz on Twitter via the #nbaph hashtag.

Before I continue though, I wish to introduce myself as most bloggers in the Pinoy Blogosphere do not know me. I have been blogging professionally since end 2006, for Splashpress Media, and have worked for an extended time with respected Pinoy bloggers Angelo, Jayvee and others. Currently I am CEO of Splashpress Media. People might know me as @franky or iFranky.

End 2010 I decided to leave Europe and move to the Philippines. This (new) blog is used to comment on my experiences both on- and offline in the Philippines.

Disclosure: This site is my personal platform, represents my and solely my own opinions and nothing I say here is or can be taken as official statement by or is endorsed by my employer, Splashpress Media.

According to Janitor Al the Manifesto draft has been mailed to several bloggers in the last weeks, in particular to a small group of select bloggers. [Read more...]

Buy Illy Espresso in Manila: Gourdo’s Bonifacio, Makati

Illy Ground EspressoEver since arriving here in the Philippines I have struggled finding a blend of coffee I really like. Admitted coming from the European mainland and spoiled by the easy access to many of my favourite local roasts in the United Kingdom, but also internationally known blends such as Segafredo, Lavazza and Illy I might still have to adapt to the local roasts.

Big was my surprise not that long ago when I visited Gourdo’s in Makati and found pictured Illy coffee. Be prepared to pay the heavy price though as 250gr tins sell at PHP 700 (around USD 16). Additionally chances that when visiting Gourdo’s no Illy Espresso is for sale are rather high, since I might have bought all available Illy espresso ground. ;)

Side note 1: Gourdo’s also sells Monin syrups (between PHP 700 to PHP 990, depending on variety and size).
Side note 2: While you’re there, you might also want to go to the Burgos Circle and enjoy a lovely Hainanese Chicken at Henry’s Place by Good Earth. [Read more...]

The Broadband Cap: Why It Is Positive for The Philippines and The Human Rights of Pinoys

Internet Access Here

In the last weeks lots has been said over the NTC’s proposed broadband cap, both positive and negative. The opinion of local tech pundits is split and sadly the influence these authors benefit, could wrongly divide public opinion.

I will be frank and upfront: the broadband cap is a positive development for the Philippines and has nothing to do with legal or human rights even. Actually it does. [Read more...]

Hello Pinoys

Tech Life in The Philippines

Welcome to Highly Relevant and Entertaining, a blog maintained by Franky. Having worked with Pinoys for several years already, mainly via my involvement at Splashpress Media, I finally made the jump and travelled to the beautiful Philippines.

I have not regretted my decision any second and have discovered a whole new culture and mentality. Of course I also have minor complaints, not seldom in the tech area. This site will be my Philippines soapbox and mainly provide commentary on the tech scene, as well the blogging scene.
